What size PFD should I order?
The sizes listed below are the actual size of the garment. When sizing allow for a comfortable semi loose fit to allow you to wear a windcheater or jumper underneath in cooler weather.
To take a chest measurement, stand with your arms to your side and place the tape measure around the fullest part of your chest, under your arms. Ensure that the tape measure remains parallel to the ground and place two fingers between the tape measure and your body and check the length indicated. This is your chest measurement.

What should I look for in a PFD?
- When buying a PFD, make sure it is an approved product. “Complies” and “Meets” does not mean approved. StormRider series of PFD’s are fully approved Type 1 / Level 150 PFD’s certified to either standards 1512 Type 1 or 4758.1 150N (see below for certification details).
- Seriously look at the design of the PFD from the aspect of how it is going to float you if you are unconscious. Be aware that your centre of gravity changes and you are more likely to float face down. StormRider PFD’s will turn you over to face upwards at an inclined angle.
- Check the label to ensure that it is intended for your weight and size.
- Ensure that the type of PFD that is applicable to the water/ boating activity you intend to engage in. StormRider PFD’s are Type 1 / Level 150 and are legal for full offshore use.
- As PFD’s are meant to be worn over the duration of your activity, the weight, cut and design of the PFD is important to determine the comfort factor.
- StormRider PFD’s are the only Personal Flotation Device that can legally be worn open (with the buckle fastened), and depending on the model are made from a breathable and stretchable fabric to ensure a perfect fit for the life of the jacket.

What do I do if I have used my PFD in an emergency situation?
Should you need to deploy your StormRider PFD we strongly recommend that you have your PFD serviced by a dealer/service agent (refer below) to ensure that the PFD is fully checked and ready for re-use.
How often do I need to service my PFD?
To ensure your safety, PFD’s must be self-serviced every 12 months for the first nine years of use with a major service by a service agent on the tenth year. To self check the bladder, orally inflate the bladder via the mouthpiece tube located on the left breast side and leave inflated overnight. Check for leaks and/or damage. To deflate the bladder, press on the mouthpiece valve using the top of the sealing cap. Check the CO2 cylinder for any corrosion, leakage or any possible damage and ensure that it is screwed in tightly. Visually check all belts and fastenings for damage. A downloadable service guide is available via the link at the bottom of all pages of this site.
